Wow! Thanks for the courage to share. I also am sex addict and and liar. Shame is often my prime motivator for lying. Thanks, and God bless you!

Your post describes all too well the place many men are at. It was a place I was at for a long time. The journey out will be very long and hard. All the years spent in this addiction now have to be undone. The addiction did not occur overnight, and the recovery will not happen overnight. Journaling like this, can be a valuable tool in your recovery, as it has been for mine. Continue to dig into your feelings and emotions and look for those events that have caused you to seek a "medication" to cover them up.

I think a purity group in a local church may be extremely effective for some and not for others. Having a diversity of approaches to support, some based in religion and others not, is critical I believe to helping as many people as possible. It is critically important that people struggling with this addiction try out different groups and experiment a bit with going outside their comfort zone in terms who they might normally interact with (e.g., a non-chirstian going to a christian group or a someone suspicious of therapy going to a counseling group, etc.). All this in the service of finding the suite of support activities that is most helpful to them. That is going to be really unique for each person.

There is certainly hope in this struggle. Your recovery and strategy to remain pure must be as dynamic and creative as the addiction itself. I suggest finding a purity group through a local church. Finding others who are willing to fight against the addiction can be very beneficial in many ways.

I know it is.

Sometimes, we can draw strength in comforting others. I think often of the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi when I struggle.

My thoughts then turn outward, and I understand that the universal law of love is that what we give, we ultimately receive.

There is another, like yourself, who is hurting tonight. She struggles with the pain that her sex addiction has caused herself and others. Her name is Rae, and I encourage you to visit her, and offer words of hope. You might find hope returned to you, my friend.

In fact, I'm sure of it.
